HG 1/144 Gafran Part 3

Unconventional joints

Moving very fast onto the final assembly of HG 1/144 Gafran this time. ^^

Parts for the arms and shoulder armors.

While the shape and size are the same, there are different connectors designed for the wrist parts for the two types of hand units.

The elbow joint.

Funnily, for the elbow joint itself, it can bend backward more (right image) than its intended forward articulation (left image). ^^;

Major components of the arms before the final assembly.

Done for Gafran's arms.

Pretty standard articulation range for the elbow joint.

Despite the "unnaturally" wide articulation range possible with the elbow joint, it's forced to become "normal" (like all other HG kits XD) thanks to the restriction imposed by the forearm. ^^;

Since the beam vulcan is designed with a ball-type joint as its base, it's able to move on the palm.

Parts for the legs.

Foil stickers used for the soles.

Rather unconventional design for the ankle joint: a peg joint that connects to a polycap is able to swing to the left or right.

The articulation is limited by the heel though.

(Left) Just rotate the front portion of the feet downward to get the "claws" in flight mode.
(Right) Some details beneath the feet.

Major components of the legs before the final assembly.

Done for the legs.

Very wide articulation for the knee joint.

Despite the limitation of the heel, the ankle joint can bend well enough for the entire leg to lean to its side.
So despite the unconventional ankle joint design, Gafran seems to have pretty standard articulation overall. ^^

The legs in Flight Mode transformation state.

Parts for the waist.
Almost too simple it seems, but it's not surprising since the skirt armors are from Gafran's wings instead of the conventional pieces mounted on the waist like most other MSs.

Done for the waist.

The hip joint can be turned like most other recent High Grade kits.

Done for the lower body.

The lower legs are positioned somewhat to the back to give them a "beast-like" feel. ^^

Without any side skirt armor to restrict the legs' movement, kneeling comes as a very simple task for Gafran. ^^

Parts for the body.

The silver paint behind the cannon turns out pretty well. ^^

Major components and parts of the body before the final assembly.

Done for the body.
Apart from having the most parts, the body seems to have the most amount of details as well. ^^

The entire spine can be tilted forward.

Triple joint design for the neck: the neck itself plus two ball-type joints on the polycap. ^^

The shoulder blocks can be flipped to the front for a very wide degree. It's an explicit design for the Flight Mode transformation, but action poses in MS form should be able to benefit from this design as well.

Done for the main body. ^^

The rest of the assembly shall be continued in the next posting. ^^
