Nendoroid Petit Haruhi Summer Festival Set Part 1

Haruhi

Done with big red robot with hot-blooded flame pattern, ^^ the element of moe returns to this blog in high dosage with this next review series. ^^

My first Nendoroid review in 2012, this is Nendoroid Petit Haruhi Summer Festival Set from Good Smile Company. ^^ This is the second Nendoroid Petit set that I have in my collection, after Lucky Star x Street Fighter Set reviewed in July 2011. ^^

Released in August 2011, this Nendoroid Petit set contains the three main female characters from the "second season" of "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" released in 2009: Haruhi, Yuki and Mikuru. The characters are depicted to be in their summer festival yutakas as seen in Episode 19, the last episode of the infamous "Endless Eight" chapter. ^^;

I didn't get to see how the characters look like in their summer festival yutakas in "normal scale", XD as I didn't watch the entire second season of the anime, perhaps mercifully so, as I heard a lot of negative comments about the "Endless Eight" chapter. I suppose it doesn't take a professional movie critic to realize that looping a whole chunk of the same story for eight episodes, consecutively for eight weeks is not going to be well received, especially when the total episode count of the second season is only 14. ^^;

However, I really like this Nendoroid set though. ^^ In Nendoroid format, Haruhi is the only one of the three that I have. Even though I always wanted to have the Nendoroid version of Mikuru and Yuki to complete the SOS Brigade, their designs don't seem to be cohesive enough to me to be displayed together. ^^; Like Haruhi, the first version and the Disappearance ver. versions of Yuki are in school uniform, but the only Nendoroid Mikuru is in her "Asahina Mikuru's Adventures Episode 00" maid outfit. ^^ Getting Nendoroid Ryoko would allow Mikuru to be displayed in school uniform to match Haruhi and Yuki, but the hassle (and expense) involved to assemble all the figures to get that brigade image doesn't seem too worthwhile in my opinion, especially now when all the Nendoroids mentioned above are hard-to-find items. ^^;

This Summer Festival Set is definitely a great option to assemble the three characters for that brigade image. Even though they are in much smaller Petit scale, I don't think there's any compromise in terms of overall quality, based on my experience with Lucky Star x Street Fighter Set. ^^ Yuki and Mikuru from this set would be the first Nendoroid version of the two characters in my collection, and perhaps the last as well. Now that I have this Summer Festival Set, the aim to assemble a SOS Brigade in Nendoroid format is achieved. With that, I don't think I want to spend any effort tracking down all the previous Nendoroid releases from the Haruhi series as listed earlier on anymore. ^^

A look at the content of this Nendoroid Petit Set:

"Natsu matsuri" (夏祭り) is pretty much an effortless translation for "Summer Fesival". XD

The three figures and the only accessories included (beside the display bases) can be seen very clearly through the front window of the box.

Expect for its left side, the same front view of the three figures can be seen plastered on all sides of the box. ^^

Taking my sweet time for this review series (XD), the three figures are going to be introduced one-by-one in separate postings. ^^

Starting with Haruhi, the brigade chief of course. ^^

(Left) The base's diameter is 3cm.
(Right) A slot on its back is used to connect the figure to the display stand.

Closeups on the details:

With both hands on her waist, the figure is designed with a "bossy" pose that fits Haruhi's image accurately. The confident smile across her face is just as lovely as all the flower patterns printed on her yutaka. Given the small size of the figure, the number of flower prints on the dress is limited, but each of them is crisp in appearance. Also, the harmonious color scheme of the dress is very lovely to look at. ^^

As small at she is, there are a few articulation points on this figure to alter her display pose. ^^

The head and arms are movable.

Ball-type joint for the neck joint, so the head is actually capable of a very wide range of movement.

Like all Nendoroid figures, the head parts can be separated. I'm not sure if the face part is compatible with previous versions of Nendoroid Petit Haruhi though.

Swivel joint for the waist.

Even her two little feet can swivel beneath the yutaka. ^^
That's perhaps the cutest thing I've seen in a while. ^^

Adjusted a different pose for Haruhi. She looks like she's ready to shout some order to poor Kyon or the rest of her SOS Brigade. ^^

Another pose of unknown display purpose for the figure. XD

Held by Figma Haruhi School Summer Fuku Ver. like an oversize doll. XD

It's Haruhi holding Haruhi. Your argument will forever be invalid. XD

Yuki will be up next. ^^
