BB Senshi Sangokuden Sonsaku Physalis Gundam Part 8

Genuine bulk

Continuing with the assembly of BB Senshi Sangokuden Sonsaku Physalis Gundam after the previous posting. ^^

Sonsaku Physalis Gundam with all his extra armor parts.

Closeup on the armor parts.

Parts with varying amount of applied paint work and detailing.

Foil sticker for the forehead sensor is the second, and the last piece to be used from the sticker sheet on this kit. ^^

Armor components of Sonsaku Physalis Gundam.

The three major components that are going to contribute to the Gundam's large size.

(Left) The shorter pair of straight pegs are going to be used to connect the shoulder armors to the kit's shoulders.
(Right) The hinge joint of the pegs allow the armors to be raised/lowered besides their respective shoulders.

Done for the armored form of Sonsaku Physalis Gundam.

As mentioned, only two pieces from the foil sticker sheet were used on the entire kit, so there are plenty of leftovers to be used on other kits in the future. ^^

The large size of Sonsaku Physalis Gundam, especially with its large V-fin and shoulder armors immediately stands out when the kit is completed. ^^ Given that the character design is based off the heavy Gundam GP02A, the bulky look of Sonsaku Physalis Gundam is to be expected I supposed, but it's still pretty impressive to assemble and to have it in hand. ^^ This is definitely one of the larger-sized releases from the regular 600-Yen (exclusive of tax) category. ^^

Speaking of size, especially when coupled with its price tag, it's difficult not to compare Sonsaku Physalis Gundam to Kochu Gundam, the previous BB Senshi Sangokuden kit I completed that has a remarkable bulk but is also priced at 600 Yen (exclusive of tax). While they share those two similarities, I think Sonsaku Physalis Gundam can be seen as being intrinsically heavy, while Kochu Gundam's bulk comes from his weapon parts, which can be detached to represent a plain form based off Gundam Mk-II. Sonsaku Physalis Gundam on the other hand, has weapon parts which are very much integrated into the Gundam's image, so even though parts from his shoulder armors do come off to form his giant hammer, Kyoshu Gekikokon (強襲激鋼棍), they don't feel like external addo-ons.

Simply put, Sonsaku Physalis Gundam looks bulky because it's bulky. ^^

Besides its size, the large areas of golden details on the kit are definitely helping to give it an outstanding appearance in my opinion. Those curvy details on the shoulder armors continuously remind me of the difficulty involved when I painted them (^^;), but the model kit's large size is also helping to make them stand out easily. ^^ Large size + lots of shiny golden details = amazing look. ^^

Some action poses from Sonsaku Physalis Gundam, and an introduction of its weapon gimmicks in the next posting. ^^
